Montecrestese is a comune (municipality) in the Province of Verbano-Cusio-Ossola in the Italian region Piedmont , located about 140 kilometres (87 mi) northeast of Turin and about 35 kilometres (22 mi) northwest of Verbania , on the border with Switzerland. As of 31 December 2004, it had a population of 1,197 and an area of 86.4 square kilometres (33.4 sq mi).
