Surava is first mentioned about 1580 as Surraguas.
Geography
Before the merger, Surava had a total area of 7.0 km2 (2.7 sq mi). Of this area, 10.6% is used for agricultural purposes, while 78.3% is forested. Of the rest of the land, 4.3% is settled (buildings or roads) and the remainder (6.8%) is non-productive (rivers, glaciers or mountains).
