Vétroz has an area, as of 2009, of 10.5 square kilometers (4.1 sq mi). Of this area, 4.97 km2 (1.92 sq mi) or 47.6% is used for agricultural purposes, while 2.06 km2 (0.80 sq mi) or 19.7% is forested. Of the rest of the land, 1.91 km2 (0.74 sq mi) or 18.3% is settled (buildings or roads), 0.25 km2 (0.097 sq mi) or 2.4% is either rivers or lakes and 1.2 km2 (0.46 sq mi) or 11.5% is unproductive land.
Of the built up area, industrial buildings made up 2.0% of the total area while housing and buildings made up 8.2% and transportation infrastructure made up 6.3%. Power and water infrastructure as well as other special developed areas made up 1.1% of the area Out of the forested land, 16.6% of the total land area is heavily forested and 1.5% is covered with orchards or small clusters of trees.
