Bex
The commune of Bex stretches from the Rhône to the glacier, passing by the Mines de Sel and imposing mountains such as the Miroir d'Argentine and the Grand Muveran.
A town of water and salt, Bex surprises with its cultural and geological riches, as well as the extraordinary variety of its flora and fauna. Already famous in the 19th century for its spa treatments and hotels, Bex attracted many tourists until the middle of the 20th century.
A cultural and dynamic town, its historic houses and fountains captivate visitors strolling through the old town. A visit to the Bex Salt Mines, the commune's main tourist attraction, is both entertaining and informative, with its wagon and explanations of how salt is extracted.
From the very first slopes of the commune, vineyards of various grape varieties line the hillsides, soaking up the sun as they wait to be harvested and finally delight visitors' taste buds. Higher up, the commune's roads wind up to the Vallon de Nant (and its famous alpine botanical garden "La Thomasia"), a well-known starting point for hikers on the famous "Tour du Muveran" hiking trail. For lovers of wilderness and seclusion, the Solalex valley also offers a wide range of walks.
