The old town of St. Gallen

The car-free old town is a picturesque district with 111 richly decorated oriel windows, such as the camel, griffin or pelican oriels. The textile tradition of St. Gallen is reflected in its characteristic boutiques. The “Erststockbeizli” on the first floor of half-timbered houses are entirely unique.

Abbey District of St. Gallen

In the Abbey District, the landmark of St. Gallen, you will experience history at every turn. On a guided tour, learn how the hermitage of the monk Gallus became a UNESCO World Heritage site. Stroll through the Abbey District, visit the impressive baroque cathedral and enter the district’s centrepiece, the opulent rococo hall of the Abbey Library.

St. Gallen is known as “The City in the Green Ring”, as it is surrounded by a lovely natural landscape: explore the local recreation area of St. Gallen on the Three Ponds Trail or the Sittertal valley on St. Gallen’s Bridge Trail. Take a short detour to the Appenzellerland with the Alpstein, or treat yourself to a trip to the shores of Lake Constance.
