Bettmerhorn – Aletsch Glacier
A combination of close and distant views: On the one side the longest glacial flow of the Alps, and Rhone Valley with views as far as the Weisshorn and Matterhorn on the other.
The car-free Riederalp-Bettmeralp vacation spot is reached by mountain rail from the valley below. Journeys continue from the Bettmeralp with the colourful 8-seater gondolas to the point where the Aletsch Glacier appears from around the corner. Here’s the place to learn plenty about this supposed eternal world of ice at the exhibition and vantage point.
Those wanting to get closer select the glacial path to the famous Marjelensee lake, then return via Fiescheralp back to the Bettmeralp. Paths to the Aletsch woods are gentler, while the alpine route over the ridge to the Eggishorn is said to be somewhat challenging.
