Elphaba e Glinda si sono allontanate e devono convivere con le conseguenze. Elphaba, demonizzata come la Malvagia Strega dell'Ovest, lotta in esilio per la libertà degli animali, mentre Glinda gode di fama e prestigio a Oz.
